Our Story

ACCOMPLISHMENTS TO DATE

Our foundation celebrates and encourages community development through educational and arts events that uplift traditional values and social inclusiveness of the Sierra Leonean people. We are delighted to share the remarkable successes we have achieved in Nimikor Chiefdom, Kono District, thanks to the generous contributions from a few dedicated individuals and organizations like yours. Our work in the Kono District is only the beginning of a national initiative which requires additional resources to meet the needs of the expansive student populations.

1. Water Well Project: In collaboration with the local community, we recently completed construction on a new water well that will provide clean and accessible water to hundreds of children and their families. This project will not only improve the health and well-being of the residents but will also alleviate the burden of water scarcity in the community.

2. School Infrastructure Development: Our commitment to education is reflected in the construction of a new elementary school and planning for a new secondary school building and Preschool to be completed by September 2026. Construction of the Pre-School is slated to be complete by September 2025 because of the large number of 3–4-year-old now attending the school. These facilities will provide a conducive environment for learning, fostering academic growth, and ensure that our youth have access to quality education through secondary school. Before the construction of our school the children in our community completed a mean of 3.5 years of education with no hope of ever reaching advanced level training. Students at our schools receive financial support from elementary school to university in addition to medical and housing support. Our test results at our primary school are some of the highest in the region.

3. Free Clinic: Recognizing the importance of healthcare, especially in underserved communities, we established an annual free clinic service with ongoing follow-up and support to address basic healthcare needs. This initiative has significantly improved the health outcomes of the residents, and we continue to expand our services to cater to the growing demand in neighboring communities.

4. Nurturing Sustainable Agriculture: The OSI Bongema community farm, another successful venture, is sowing the seeds of self-sufficiency. For our work in promoting community sustainable initiatives, we were given 20 acres of land by the Chiefdom. We have been able to employ over 30 community workers who assist in cultivating the land and growing crops that not only provide sustenance for the school but also serve as an educational platform for sustainable agricultural practices, aligning with our mission to empower communities. Our goal is to provide a co-operative food program for the school and the surrounding community.

5. Micro-Loans and Scholarships: Previous contributions have facilitated micro-loans, empowering local entrepreneurs to start and grow small businesses. Moreover, educational scholarships have been awarded to over 1000 students, opening doors to a brighter future. This year was the first to see seven graduates matriculate to university with full scholarships for tuition, room, and board. This dual approach ensures that economic empowerment and educational opportunities go hand in hand.

6. International Traditional Arts and Culture Festival: Our annual One Salone International Traditional Arts and Culture Festival has become a flagship event that showcases the rich cultural heritage of Sierra Leone. The festival not only preserves traditional arts but also serves as a platform for cultural exchange, fostering unity and understanding among diverse communities. We currently have 25 schools developing cultural programs and participating in the festival which also showcases Elders who continue to perform throughout the chiefdom. The foundation provides resources for costumes and instrumentation for dances in addition to transportation for all artists to and from the event to insure participation by all those who wish to attend.

During the rainy season our swampland turns into a river. Our children need a bridge strong enough to match their determination to attend school no matter what the obstacles. Rainy season begins in April.
